I've been checking matchback project on my 59.94 Online projects for a while after I realized when I did that the time code window would show tracks over 9 correctly. In a standard project nothing over 9 gets a proper ID title so when I put a sequence to compare to video on onto V11 and select V11 in the time code window there is no indication of the track number being displayed. It displays the right time code but at a glance it's not obvious which track it is. I've found clicking matchback makes it more of a film project and then the timecode window will display TC 11 etc... Today in a 23.976 1080 project that I had clicked the film option thinking that was like matchback in a 59.94 project I found after importing an aaf from protools I could not modify the tape name without unlinking. I unlinked and renamed but because a protools aaf comes in with all the tracks having the same tape name a relink is problematic. Sure enough after modifying tape names I relinked the clips and they grabbed whatever track it found first so my 12 stems ended up all messed up. I created a similar project but left film unchecked and copied all the bins in then I was able to import the aaf and modify the tape name for each track without unlinking, like I normally do. Just a curious observation that might help someone else. Till now I had found no real downside to checking matchback but apparently in the 23.976 world there are some different concerns stemming from aux time codes etc... being effect by modifying tape names etc...
If anybody can clarify the under the hood subtleties in checking match back in a 29.97/59.94 project and checking film in a 23.976 HD project I'd be listening.
