I haven't used the application manager up till now. To blast to my current supported dongle I went to my avid products and obtained a .avd updater file that I used IIRC dongle manager to blast them with. If I go the application manager route does that take me to my avid products page to obtain the .avd file or do I have to do that and then use application manager to blast the dongle?

You should also use the application manager to update your dongles. Even though the dongle manager may still be on your system, avoid using it.
