Might be the case. If not, then you may have an older Rainbow Duo style dongle that can not be seen by anything after MC6 or so.
I had to do a dongle exchange with Avid for several. I used the parts replacement form and mailed them in. They sent me Sentinal Safenet USBs with the lighted end. Good times,..
Dongles are warranted for life, as long as they are not lost or crushed open.

DQSA friend is trying to update his Xpress Studio 5.1 enabled dongle to MC 8.3 and purchased and downloaded the .avd file from his account.
However, both the Application Mgr as well as Dongle Mgr do not 'see' the dongle but OK the updater file as valid. He got a screen grab of the online activation where the dongle and dongle serial no. are both displayed and they are a match for the .avd file. So what's he doing wrong?
Any and all help appreciated.
