Re: [Avid-L2] What's the green dot?

Frameflex appears on any clip that does not match the frame size or aspect of the project as well. That can be a lot of clips.

As for the sync problem with Quicktime ProRes… On my recent project, AMA links to ProRes files made by a Pix recorder did not interpret the audio rate properly, leading to extremely poor playback as Avid insisted on doing some kind of real time audio conversion on the fly. Very annoying.

AMA is still dodgy, but I did get through the project with AMA linking to everything. I'm stubborn, and frankly, if AMA does not work smoothly in the next version, I won't continue with MC.

You still have to transcode eventually. None of the exchange formats (AAF, OMF, and EDLs) nor the common export paths (reference file, same as source) work properly with AMA linked media. I did transcode to ProResHQ though rather than DNxHD and that worked.

Frameflex is also not quite there yet. The controls are still fussy and unpredictable and it blocks or undermines a variety of effects, notably TimeWarp. You often have to "delete" Frameflex before applying TimeWarp.

Version 7.0.4 by the way.

Cheers,

I wonder why is FrameFlex is invoked. The digitized clip is 29.97 NTSC, captured from DV tape to QuickTime in Final Cut Pro years ago.I AMAed the material into MC 8.1.

I also made the unhappy discovery that MC isn't playing the audio and video in sync. This is a separate issue from the green dot. Or is it?

These indicate that FrameFlex is being used. I usually see these when I am editing footage that is a different frame rate from my project setting.

I haven't edited with Avid in a while, but I'm playing with the latest MC because I want to get my groove on again. I'm working in a 30i NTSC project with some DV captures of my editing reel. I cut a spot down in a sequence and I noticed these happy green dots on the timeline. They remind me of an effect indicator.

Thanks.
