Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Universal mastering field 2 program start, the latest QC BS

I stopped bothering with Universal Mastering a long time ago, because motion adapters and highly configurable pulldown options are so easily available in MC. It's so much easier IMHO to go through the mixdown process since you can build a perfect sequence in 59.94 project and never worry about cadence or timing. Added benefit of this is that you're already way ahead at that point for your file based deliveries, because as we all know tape is only part of the battle (and even only sometimes at that). Universal might come in more handy with 24-25 stuff, but for my money, going from 23.98 to 29.97, use the multiple mixdown multiple project workflow. It's tight and what you think is more costly time-wise actually winds up saving time in the long run.

What in particular is broken?  I've never had to do universal mastering before so I don't have any reference other than the general knowledge that Avid with Nitris DX will do universal mastering just like the old meridian symphony did only with HD too.  In checking the help menu I see there is a need sometimes to resample the audio for the various source and target frame rates.  I don't recall that on the meridian system but having never been driving the universal mastering bus before perhaps it was there too.  I always thought the audio bob did the conversion of audio on the fly but perhaps I'm wrong.
