Not sure what the options are for computer monitors, but for video, the Fuji device I mentioned earlier, and a discontinued device called a Davio, eliminates the need for control of the levels on the monitor itself. It does all of the video calibration of the monitor internal to the device. From there, LUTs can also be applied.


As for computer monitors, using the Spyder affects the monitor through software instead of monitor controls. You calibrate it and the monitor applies the calibration to the monitor internally. You can actually see the Spyder calibration preset in the Monitor controls in the Mac OS at least.

Understood, though contrast control is not available for DVI on either of the Dell monitors I'm working with at the moment.  Not sure why, but this is common.
