Dreamcolor -- was: Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Sony Sucks!

Greg:

I am quite interested in this monitor.

A couple of questions.  First, can it take a 1920 x 1080 HDMI input from a Decklink card?  Can it take a 4K input from a 4K Decklink?  I assume it doesn't need the "band-aid" that old Dreamcolors required.  Does it accept 4K only over HDMI or over Displayport as well?

I am curious about how the internal calibration works.  Obviously this has advantages over systems that apply LUTs in Resolve because those eat up processing power.  Does it just calibrate to itself, or does it use reference signals from an external source?

I like the fact it can display gamuts other than 709.  How are the blacks (currently using a 2541A)?

Finally, are they more reliable than the original Dreamcolors?  A friend of mine had several fail on him, and it soured him.  Obviously this is a new design and panel, so I expect only the name remains the same.

Thanks,

Jeff

BTW - speaking of that new DreamColor Z27x, I'm the guy that designed it. So feel free to fire questions my way. (Some of the old timers around here may remember me from the many years I was fighting the good fight at Avid.)

I'm pretty darned happy with my baby and I think you all will be too.
