On the subject of Educational pricing; my employer hires about a half
dozen paid college students interns every year. Part of my job is giving
the interns an orientation and setting up their ISIS and Interplay
accounts. In the past few years, only a few have ever edited on Media
Composer. Their experience is mostly Adobe. The bad news for Avid is
that if the big users can't find editors with Avid experience, they
won't be buying the big dollar hardware Avid wants to sell. The good
news for Avid is that the students I see are (for the most part)
frighteningly smart and pick up MC skills very quickly. Avid's smartest
move would be to do whatever they have to, to put a non buggy, fully
functional copy of Media Composer on as many students' computers as
possible. --J.B.
