I've been following the development of this for some time via the working group within VESA. The algorithm is virtually lossless because it is designed to push more bandwidth through the DisplayPort interface. Since, even after compression, you are dealing with data rates in the Gigabits I doubt we'll see this used as a delivery format any time soon, if ever.
