You once could do this with AMA linking, at least on Mac -- but it broke in v.7 (or maybe 6.5).
In v.6 the AMA link dialog was a standard Mac file dialog box, so you could use the search field and search for e.g. all the .mov files in subfolders of whatever folder you were in. Unfortunately this no longer works in v.7 -- the AMA link dialog doesn't use the Mac file open dialog, and doesn't support searching. Kind of a pain.

You can import from different subfolders at once: open the top folder and search for *.mov files, or the proper extension, in the search results window select all the files You wish to import, drag and drop them in an Avid bin, don't forget to set Your import preferences as for target disk and resolution first; there's not such a technique for AMA linking that I know of however.
