Seriously, around 2001 Avid touted how they added UI customizability, while ignoring actual editing features. Then with v5.5 and v6, they took most of that customizability away. Apparently because someone at Avid felt that "the Avid "brand" could get effectively be destroyed by some of the crazy customizations".
Then they felt they would be the ones deciding how we should want to work, and killed off features that worked just fine. A great way to spend R&D money.

On a practical level: yes please, more interface customizability. Just open v4.5 or v5 and bring it back. Code should be there somewhere.
