I have the latest non-retina MBP and it has an SSD and 16GB of RAM. Edited a Discovery series on it running Avid...rock solid. Heavier than an Air. AN Air isn't designed for this stuff...good for basics like writing, photoshop, web surfing.
Or maybe LIGHT editing.

Newer MBP can take 16GB of RAM though not officially supported by Apple. I think 8,x or higher.
Air's CPU is excellent but the "GPU" is not quite as powerful.Dom Q. Silverio

My macpro is just old enough that it's starting to annoy me - mostly the maximum allowable memory of 8gig (I only have 4, but why upgrade if I can't have at least 16?) and the spinning media.
So, rather than upgrade this machine, which I mostly use for email, I'm thinking of selling it and replacing it with an 'air,' since when I DO use it for big files / editing / etc., I'm on an external drive anyway.
Anyone editing on a macbook air? What's that like? Or is there still a real advantage to the macbook pro now?
Any advice appreciated.
