Simply all log mode does is compress the dynamic range of a scene and fit it within the limits of the electronics.
The idea is the same as the old DBX noise reduction. The hitch is you need a decoding "algorithm" to take advantage
of it. And yes many people shoot Log for no other reason than the "big boys" shoot log. Unless you are working with
an uncompressed format shooting Log can actually do more harm than good. Shooting LOG to 35mbs XDCAM doesn't work
as by the time you apply your Lut the information needed is gone.
