Re: [Avid-L2] More folks are panning the 4K push

The fact that MP3 is not better than CD is my entire point. Sometimes the customer DOESN'T want better and bigger, they just want easier and more convenient. AND when they DO want "bigger" what they really want is "MORE and that's the other reason that MP3 is "better" for most consumers, because it lets them keep more songs in the same footprint. You may find plenty of people that want better audio quality, but if you told them you'd give them 96K, but they only got to have 100 songs on their iPod, they'd drop their need for quality pretty fast.

I don't doubt the desire for 96K by game companies and Hollywood and Nashville recording engineers. But what does the consumer want? And what can they hear? And what can the old farts whose hearing has gone but their wallets are thick want? If a kid with golden ears wants 96K on his iPod, could he afford the tech. Remember, this argument was an analogy to 4K video. Can you see it? I can make an 80" screen in HD. Heck I can make an 80" screen in 4K but only FEED it with HD. Can you see a difference? Will you PAY for the difference? People will pay for bigger, but if they can't SEE that it's better, then there's going to be a limit to how much the "specs" sell monitors.

There are tons of WAY better computer monitors even for professionals, but how many of us are using DreamColor monitors on all of our computers? Is it worth $3,000 for a computer monitor if you can see pretty well using a $200 one? For SOME applications, the answer is yes. For some, no.
