What Roger said - I've done exactly that with a variety of AMA-supported
formats. Only trick is to keep the AMA clips linked. I've done this in the
past by doing all the AMA linking in a "Rushes" project, then openning bins
from that into the main editing project to do the Transcode.
Another alternative is:
1) AMA link to Native media
2) Consolidate (or Transcode depending on source) to Avid MXF media that
will reside in /Avid MediaFiles/ structure on "Drive A"
3) Trancode those clips to create "offline" media on "Drive B"
4) Unplug "Drive A"
5) Edit
6) Unplug "Drive B" and plug "Drive A" back in.
7) Relink
For my own piece of mind I usually assign a "tape" label in step 1. It may
not be totally necessary, but it makes me feel better.
If AMA material comes unlinked for any reason simply re-AMAing the same
files will refresh the AMA links on the original AMA clips - so you can AMA
clips into a temp bin, and delete that bin when you're done, the original
clips will have relinked.
