Re: [Avid-L2] File Size limit on Fat32 4GB - one byte?

Hi David,

We've used both paid versions, and Paragon appeared to come out on top.  However, I must admit that this was some time ago!

Overall I think both are good products for the money.

Also to be clear we've not used either for a great deal of actual editing. So much the same as you, we use it for moving things around.

I wouldn't advocate trying to edit using either :)

For us, the ntfs thing surfaces when a student decides (in their infinite wisdom) not to use the network and work between home and our edit labs! We bump into this weekly.

More over, avid projects don't open properly from NTFS with the read-only support shipped in Mac OS (as you know, we need write to fire one up). In these circumstances we often simply load the project for a quick overview and either consolidate the relevant bins. Of course there are many other ways to move the media. Sometimes we just clone, however we find its good to have a peek at the project first - catch any silly student workflow mishaps.

Its all a bit of a headache.

In my view its simply handy to have something reliable installed for the edge cases where you need a quick fix.

Thanks Alex.
I've had the 3G (free) driver on my laptop for years and it's always worked
fine for me - though admittedly, I've mainly used it for transfers, not
really for serious file-access (like editing.)
Out of interest, are you comparing the performance of the Paragon NTFS
driver with the (free) "NTFS-3G" driver or the higher-performance (paid)
Tuxera "NTFS for Mac"?

D.
