it's online storage that grows pod by pod. always accessible even when resilvering due to a drive replacement at about 80% of bandwidth. these can be snapshoted and or rsyncd to duplicate systems. for lightning, we have facility ups so that isnt ever going to be an issue. as for power use, the system monitors access and goes into powersaving- also the drives are all 'green' low power consumption drives.
the benefit of instantly accessing data vs loading a tape and hoping it comes up ok is really big.
also i have cpus that are running after over 10yrs of service still but in the meantime i've seen data storages go from floppys go to zip and jaz to optical disc to cd to dvd to usb drives to firewire drives to bluray and dlt to all the various lto formats that come out ever year. service life of a system has to be thought of in a data storage plan.
it's the 'ol digital dilemma discussion, no one's right, we just have to keep chasing and migrating our bits and hope we dont drop any :)

Huh? 90Tb in a single backup? One backup is no backup, if lighning strikes,
you've lost everything...
Now, the DIY build i like, but i very much doubt the efficiency powerwise...
My guestimation is that it requires at least 2 Kw.
That is one year more cost on electricity than an LTO system will set you
back.
(granted, a smaller system for editing only will also use power. I'm at the
point of powering down at night / weekends)
