Re: [Avid-L2] Re: AVCHD workflow for final SD DVCAM master

First a bit of a rant, can we ALL (that means Avid) stop mixing Compression
with Resolution?
(not typical for this thread, but had to vent something)

for you, DNxHD 36 is full res at HIGH compression. It sucks for delivery, no
matter the downconvert.
It will introduce a lot of compression artefacts.
Now, since you're from the PAL side of the world, you could downconvert and
work in DV.
That will even be smaller, and way better quality, and will make a fine
DVcam master
BUT, internet delivery is nowadays HD. 720x576 (and deinterlaced) will NOT
be top quality for the net.
Even YouTube is doing 1080 nowadays.

so, listen to everyone here, buy some drivespace, transcode to DNxHD 120 and
work with that.
Any half decent transcoder you have laying around will do the transfer.
Let your machine rip 24/7 and be done with it.

all I have is my trusty Macbook Pro 4.1,OS 10.6.8, 2.5GHz, Intel 2 core, 4
GB RAM. From what I know 6.5 won't run on that. I can deal with that, it's
the codec question that puzzles me. Is DNx 36 ok if there is a down-convert
to SD-PAL.
