I have supplied the R680 with both pc z400 and mac pro systems,  the R 680 does not have any on board fan and can get very hot during raid initialisation,  the z400 doesn't have a front fan by default and the card would overheat during raid initialisation so i had to Install a front fan and also a spot cooler which may have been overkill.  The R680 had no probs during raid initialisation in a mac pro.
