Rick,
Is it your monitor complaining? If so - then I have to question if it really will do 1920 X 1200. Connect it directly to the computer and make sure it works like you expect.
If, on the other hand it's the OS side that says it only sees 1280 X 1024, then I'd recommend having your engineer force the Avocent config on the 'transmitter' side to say that the monitor is 1920 X 1200 instead of automatic.
(I've done that here to deal with weird stuff like the OS not knowing how big the monitors were)
