Re: [Avid-L2] Audio Quality and Sync from Cannon 5D into mc?

Jim, you are right, but the thing some people might be missing is that PluralEyes does not sync AUDIO to VIDEO, it syncs AUDIO to AUDIO, so if your audio on the 5D is off-sync, as it usually is, then your "clean" 2nd system audio will ALSO end up being out of sync. That's why WHENEVER you have dual system sound, unless the Video system is recording perfectly synced audio, PluralEyes is going to need a clapper or some sync source - as simple as clapping your hands in front of the camera or as complex as shooting a SmartSlate or having LTC sent to the camera (which I think would also be off-sync anyway...

Some cameras hardly drift at all, some drift a fair amount (seemingly independent of user error). I'd suggest using the backup audio that the mixer recorded as primary audio. Even if they were recording from the mixer to a cheap prosumer flash-memory recorder. If the mixer is recording to professional gear (Sound Devices, Zaxcom, whatever), then no contest.
