Re: [Avid-L2] 2 Avid questions in regards to FCP workflow

"First- A simple one. In FCP, lets say I have an audio track on track 1,
and I want to move it to track 2. I could simply just click on the clip,
hit option-arrow down, and bingo, it's on track
2 at the same exact TC in spot."

There is no keyboard shortcut to move clips up a track or down a track like
FCP. However, you can mark the clip and Alt+Lift it which removes it from
the sequence and puts it in your source monitor. Then use the keyboard or
mouse to patch the tracks and cut it right back in to the target track.
Actually very quick and avoids the clipboard. Or Red Segment select the
clip and hold Alt+Command when you move it up or down a track(s). This
locks it into place so you don't get those small frame slips. And
remember, directly below the source/record monitors is a little indicator
that tells you how many frames you've moved the clip right or left when
you're in segment mode. It goes away when you quit dragging.

"In FCP, I can just click on the clip to the right, hit shift<, and the
clip will move in 30 frame increments, until it "hits" the clip to the
left, and stops, without
cutting into it. "Collision" it's called. Hence, now the clips are
together."
If you select a clip in segment mode (Red arrow, in this case) you can move
the clip -10 frames with "M", -1 frame with ",", +1 frame with "." or +10
frames with "/". There is no clip collision, though, so if you keep moving
the clip and there's another clip in the way you will overwrite it. That
said, if you're sliding the clip with the mouse hold Command to snap the
head of the clip to other clips, or Alt+Command to snap the tail to other
clips/edit points in your sequence.
