The Sony F3 produces XDCAM EX. It sounds like some already transcoded the files for you to use in AVID. They probably could have saved a bunch of time and just given you the raw XDCAM files since you have to AMA the files anyway. AMA is the way to go on this.

I just installed the MXF AMA-plug-ins as well as the XDCam AMA-Plug-Ins.
