Actually, the '/' you are seeing in Disk Utility is how the computer sees the hard drive. (it is also how it differentiates between the folders).
So don't worry about that.
Just so that you can see this yourself in action.
If you open up the 'Terminal' in the 'Utilities' folder, you can drag and drop a file on to it, and it will print out the location where it is.
As an example, if you had a file on your desktop named 'Filename', and you were the user 'editor' on your machine - the operating system would say the file is located at:
/Users/editor/Desktop/Filename
If this same file were named 'File/name' the OS would think the location was:
/Users/editor/Desktop/File\:name
(see the difference?) the '/' in the file's name has to be 'escaped' in order for the computer to not get confused… and on my machine (OS 10.7 it puts in a ':' instead of the '/')
For some reason, the Avid doesn't do as good a job at 'escaping' names as the operating system does.
We see this all the time when production companies name recordings by date. As in:
05/04/2012
05/05/2012
and then put the recordings inside of those folders.
The Avid HATES that.
and tells you that the file can't be found.
However - after reading this latest issue you have… it sounds more like permissions issues on the hard drive itself…
As an administrator you ought to be able to change the name of your hard drive on your desktop. If you can't - run 'repair permissions' in the Disk Utility.

Now I didn't type a "/" at all and if I go to startup disk in System Preferences it lists the disk as Untitled but it still reads with the original name I had on the drive. WTF I've repaired permissions and this seems to have happened on an upgraded drive and a clean install on a different drive. When I boot to another startup disk the problem drive name can be changed and it is reflected in disk utility properly but when I boot to the problem drive the naming problem is messed up again and once again in disk Utility the drive name is "/" not the name I see on the desk top. Weird?

It opens the project fine when it is in a folder on the desktop. This didn't happen on the 6.0.1.1 system and this drive is a carbon copy clone of that drive before any Avid was installed. Curious if others have seen this one.
