Re: [Avid-L2] MC V6.0 Effects Editor NOW and ode to V.4

I agree, Roger. And things started to get very wanky in the timeline with the addition of the Not-So-Smart-Tools. I particularly object to the pure design idiocy of the mute/solo buttons. I mean, come on! I once could everything I needed to do as far as muting or soloing tracks with the same number of clicks I need to execute now, except that before I was clicking on a button that was the full height of the track, and now I'm clicking on a button that's half the size of the track! I have to slow down, and really look and aim for this tiny thing, and half the time I miss and click off a sync lock, which I remain unaware of until I start getting sync disasters. This was just your basic rotten idea, and it's one of several that slow me down and reduce my productivity. And every time I slow down, someone is paying. Often it's me.

David - you are now veering off target. We are your customers who buy your tools
and keep you in business. If a number of customers tell you that they preferred
the interface the way it was before or that improvements need to be made, you'd
better listen (and it seems you are) or the customers will head off elsewhere.
I've seen many changes since I began editing on Media Composer in 1992 and I
think my copy of MC4 (second time around) is the most customisable and pleasant
to work with. This is not to decry the many powerful features that have been
added since then but the user experience is important.

has its own identity and user experience and that's up to the individual product
teams to define. Avid made a commitment to unify its brand a few years back
(ie- Pinnacle Studio is now Avid Studio). UI came along for the ride. It's
about brand and brand awareness. Most large companies have a unified way for
their UI. It's an important element so customers identify with Avid products
through a visual and hopefully emotional connection.

concept/paradigm is breaking with established user experiences, it's not a good
idea. All design concepts are not good design concepts, and often they're not
even design concepts, but initiated from foreign considerations like engineering
constraints, or economics, or 'taste'.
