[Avid-L2] Re: News: Avid Offers Unprecedented Limited-Time Symphony 6 Crossgrade Promotion

Thanks Dave

Maybe over a few drinks at NAB, you, marketing, and your finance team could model out what would happen if you merged the two. As tight as Avid is now, it would be an interesting exercise to create one GREAT product to focus on, rather than trying to figure out how to make the two different. It may be easier to make one than keep two.

And, your question is simple but the answer is actually quite complex if you look at market and how specific tools fit into a particular market. I can say this. We've spent over 4 years making the core of the Media Composer product line better by piling in literally hundreds and hundreds of features in the product, we've also built core architecture components (64 bit, core UI changes, open infrastructure). Now, we can sit back and take a look at the landscape on how and where each product-Media Composer, Symphony and NewsCutter- sit in the marketplace. I can tell you that we have been doing this nearly everyday in my office in product management and design for the past four years and we'll continue to do this in the coming weeks and months. Not much info here in my response and I apologize for that.

Is Avid willing to piss off the Media Composer user-base by letting the products get so close, then "holding MC back" while Symphony gets a feature that the much larger MC base could really use? A lot of us just don't get it. It's a shame you can't publicly talk about Avid's vision of the two products going forward.
