It's just yet another decoder implementation, but have you tried FFMpeg?
Or Media Composer AMA for that matter?

How are you offloading the files? USB to the camera or a card reader? Try
both methods and compare MD5 sum of the files - see if anything weird is
happening.

Try playback of AVCHD clips in another camera or with Blu-Ray player (that
has SD slot)?
