[Avid-L2] H.264 QT's stutter under AMA - ??

 

We're running two MC's, both on MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz (one has 4G of Ram the other has 8G) one MC is v5.5, the other is v6.
We have numerous H.264 QT files - ranging in sizes from 6G up to 28G - on a Seagate GOFlex 3TB Drive, and we're using FW800 connection.
When engaging AMA to access these files we're experiencing stuttering and freezes. It's nearly impossible to review & edit footage.
Any thoughts on how we can eliminate this & achieve smoother playback ?
