well, except from the level madness, i LOVE quicktime as it is so easy to
manipulate.
(Do note as i'm biased, as a big part of my income comes from QT related
stuff..)
And, what i'm encountering more and more, most other formats do not actually
support Reelnames.
Now the term Reelname is perhaps a bit old, but the principle still goes.
Timecode alone is not enough to identify media, since out 'standard' TC
format only covers 24 hour.
LTC and VITC had some spare room for user bits, but that has never been
widely in use, and is lost in the modern ways of storing TC.
And that makes media management a hell, especially since more and more
transcoding is needed in daily work.
The lowered cost of drive space barely keeps up with the amount of footage
normally used in a production, so for the next couple of years we still have
offline/online workflows, and QT is ideal for that, just cause it has
reelnames. (In fact it has a virtual unlimited amount of TC tracks, each
with its own reelname if needed)
