I say:
Though VPR-3's (and most 1-inch Type C VTR's) could play slo-motion
video, even reverse motion, "Super Slo-Mo" was Sony's name for their
system that recorded 180fps video from special triple field-rate
cameras. "Super Slo-Mo" VTRs were based on the BVH-2000 machine.
When played at 'normal' speed (60 fields per second), the video ran
at one third the original speed, yet produced a fully compatible NTSC
composite output. Even the Super Slo-Mo tape recordings were playable
on regular Type C VTR's, though locked playback on a regular machine
would be at one third speed.
Sony won a Technical Emmy for "Super Slo-Mo".
