So, maybe try grading a scene much more contrasty - like it came right out of an overexposed 5D - clip the sky more, crush the blacks, drop the gamma... you'll still have a very beautiful image, but it will be more 'gritty.' Watch 'Domino' or any other Tony Scott film - think of this as a creative opportunity.
The beer commercials that are intentionally BADLY color-graded used to drive me crazy - now, well, it's just 'a look.'
