-Another issue to keep in mind is that a traditional import will also
truncate 10 bit ProRes files to 8bit. So you are best trying to pursue the
AMA solution which is unfortunately giving you issues.
-Can you forward any additional details such as the structure of your drives
and hardware? How was the ProRes file generated?
-Is this source material on a pocket drive or still on CF media or etc? Have
you tried copying local first, if so? Are you working in a project which
matches the native frame rate of the ProRes file?
Prores is an export from FCP or Color, i don't know.
The file is on my (semi) local storage, no issues tere.
All is plain 25.
-Sounds like some sort of system resource issue. Are you on a 64 bit OS?
Nope, will try later on if i can get it running (installed Win7 yesterday)
-What is the error message?
None, Avid just vanishes...
-Is there a reason why you are transcoding now?
I need to play out to tape
-You could just work with the ProRes material via AMA to at least start
cutting. If your PC chokes on the stuff you can work via draft settings
until ready to finish.
-Wonder if a video mixdown or transcode of your timeline would have the same
issue.
No idea, will try that, otherwise i'll chop up the long file into smaller
ones...
-We've seen stuff like this before but we are lucky enough to have multiple
machines and usually it will work on another.
That's how i do it also, but felt not like troubheshooting too much on a
sunday evening...

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
