I answer:
Run the Uninstaller that you already should have in the
"Avid_Uninstallers" folder. This folder is found in the Applications
Folder. In that folder is at least a Media Composer Uninstaller
folder (sometimes, there are uninstallers for other software,
depending what you have installed). You can verify which version of
Uninstaller you have by selecting the Media Composer Uninstaller and
hitting Cmd "I" on the keyboard. The window that opens will reveal
which version the uninstaller is for. In your case, the uninstaller
should be for 5.5.2.
Follow the directions in the ReadMe that is included with the 5.5.2.1
patch. Uninstall the previous version, then install the 5.5.2.1 patch.
Robert asked:

requiring reinstalling?
I answer:
Theoretically, it should not. But to be safe, always back up your
system before doing any uninstalls or installations.
