FYI: My System Profiler lists my "Nehalem" machine as "Mac Pro 4,1"
Again, the constructive and insightful feedback is appreciated and a
pleasure to read. I'm honored and grateful to share the company of such
colleagues.
As Roger is running MC v5.5.2 on a 27" iMac, it looks like I'll take the
"Guinea Pig" route with 5.5.x on the Nehalem. My new, boxed copy of
Media Composer should arrive within 7-10 business days. I'll likely be
out of town when it does. It'll be a while before I migrate, install
and test. I'll report my results back to the List as soon as I can.
As for Lion and the evolving Mac ecosystem, I give Terrence's points a
lot of weight. I'd not be surprised to find the opposite of anything
Apple tells me to be true.
I've felt for a long time Apple has become a "hip-slick-and-cool"
version of the IBM they decried back in their 1984 Super Bowl
commercial. After the two-year wait for the Steve-Jobs-described
"jaw-dropping" release of FCPX, it's clearer to me now more than ever
that Apple's philosophy has morphed from "Think Different" to "Think the
Way We Tell You to Think." They simply haven't rebranded . . . yet.
Warm regards,
Jesse Ettinger

If you want to donate to Red Cross quake relief, you can do so through your cell phone. Text redcross to 90999 to make a $10 donation. It will be on your next cell bill.
