One of the changes from MC 3.5 to MC 5.5 is how audio and audio hardware is handled. My guess is that MC 5.5 is seeing the Logitech combo as a conflicting audio i/o device. For example, I'm now successfully using an Mbox2 Mini on my Mac for all apps. This works fine with MC since 5.0, but caused problems in earlier versions. Sounds like you were having a similar issue, except in reverse.
