[Avid-L2] Re: "Avid Editor has stopped working" on Exit

Thanks very much for the feedback.

Quite surprisingly, I believe I have just accidentally found the cause of the problem on my system.

Long story short -- although I only use two computer monitors when cutting on Media Composer -- I typically have three monitors enabled and hanging off my Avid-qualified HP Z800.

When cutting, I only display Avid on the two outputs of the nVidia 4800 card in my machine. The other card (an nVidia 1800 -- which is also qualified by Avid) is typically used for other applications.

If all three monitors are enabled in my W7 operating system -- I get the hang on exit problem. However, if I disable the third monitor in the OS (nVidia 1800) the hanging problem disappears.

As we are on completely different computing platforms -- I don't know if there is any commonality worth exploring. But my problem seems to be related to having more than two monitors enabled with any MC version at starting at 5 and above.

The editor who used the station would have to force quit but would never lose anything. He then updated the station to v5.0.3 ( or whatever the latest update was) and them got the message all the time. We uninstalled every Avid program on the computer. Updated the computers OS and re- installed everything along with the update. He says it's working now. It has happened a few times since then but he says he noticed it seems to happen if he's working with G Drives being daisy chained to his iMac.

The options are to check online for the problem (which is a dead-end) -- or close the program. I always select close the program -- and it will shutdown MC.

Importantly, I've never lost any files or work -- but I am growing weary of not being able to exit cleanly -- and I am loathe to start a paid trouble ticket for this issue.
