Speaking of effects. If you want to know who FCP X is aimed at, this is the perfect area to explain it. The way effects work in FCP X is via Motion. Only motion works with Plugins. Inside of Motion, you can build "rigs" which are basically templates of effects. You also decide which parameters will be visible in that "rig."
These rigs are what you use in FCP X. The idea is to make it simple to use in FCP X as editors don't want to many confusing parameters in front of them. And power user editors will go out to Motion to do their effects tweaking.
