"Is there some other likely cause?"
Yes. Too wide a shutter angle (or too 'slow' if you come from a
stills/digital background).
That's assuming that the raw footage looks the same, which you suggest it
does.

Subject: [Avid-L2] handheld RED footage looks soft -- common complaint?
I'm working on a show that has a fair bit of handheld RED footage of
high-detail nature scenes, some of them quite high-contrast.
This footage gets quite soft when the camera moves -- considerably more
than the normal motion blur I am accustomed to seeing with other formats.
I see this on transcoded footage at DNxHD115, but it looks even worse
when playing untranscoded AMA RED clips. If I examine the RED footage
with REDCine-X it seems to be comparably blurred during motion.
Higher contrast shots seem worse than lower-con ones, and the issue
becomes much less apparent after transcoding to SD.
Is this par for the course for RED footage? If so, is it a well-known
limitation? It seems to me like it may be a natural outcome of
compressing images with high complexity both spatially and temporally,
but I haven't seen it discussed on RED forums. Is there some other likely
cause? Is there any way to make it easier to watch?
Lots of questions!Any insights much appreciated.
