[Avid-L2] Re: 2997 to 2398

Sorry for the confusion, in my initial response, I did not realize it was a 29.97 edit rate, but just read it as 23.976 NTSC and why my response didn't make a lot of sense.

There was some changes made to mix & match in v5 that a transcode does convert to timecode to project type. So in theory, with all media online, this could work. But it is not a metadata only conversion process like what is possible with "modify format" which works with sequence metadata only. This function does not support edit rate conversion as is this scenario and do the proper timecode conversions.

I haven't played much with the transcode/conversion process and need to check with product owners and engineering as to the full workflows available with this. My initial understanding is that it simulates what would happen with a "Teranex" type conversion and recapturing from the new tape source with timecode conversion. I do not know what it does for matchback material, embedded 2:3 pulldown (advanced or normal), etc. I will check into it as well as play with a few clips myself.

Would I be correct in assuming the glitch or part of it is that the start tc remains 30F after modifying the original 30I match back sequence to HD 23.976 1080P? Sure seems like that isn't right to me but I've always used the edl method in the past so I really have only modified NTSC 23.976 projects in the past with success when onlining in HD. Pretty far out Friday night/ Sat morning for me.
