UPDATE:
I am on Windows; so, no Disk Warrior for me.
However, in trashing the media databases, Windows informed me that I did not
have the proper permissions to do this in one of the MXF media folders.
I took control of the folder, and was able to continue.
I am guessing that permissions was the problem with the title tool and
importing -- Avid couldn't create media in that folder -- but, rebuilt the
databases anyway.
Things seem to be working again. Thanks to Lou and blafarm for the
suggestions!
