Dom, you are correct about Paragon's NTFS utility. I did a little more testing. My IMAC has full access to the installed hard drives on the PC. I was gifted a set of NTFS USB drives. My MAC couldn't use them directly. I reformatted two of them to HJFS and both the PC with MAC Drive and the MAC can see them when they are attached directly. The MAC can also see the shared MAC formatted drives when they are connected to the PC. I connected a USB NTFS formatted drive to the PC and activated the same level of sharing. My MAC lists the shared NTFS drive but can't access it and gives the message, "The operation can't be completed because the original item for <shared name> can't be found.

I downloaded and installed the 10 day free trial of Paragon's NTFS utility. The MAC can read the NTFS drive when it is connected to the MAC. The MAC can not read it when it is attached to and shared on the PC. Takes less than 10 minutes to install and reboot.

NTFS files are readable, but not writable, in OS X.

Connect it to a PC and scan for errors.

If not try Paragon's NTFS utility. It allows you to read and write to
NTFS drives.
