[Avid-L2] Re: Media Comp 5 ...

My intent is not to fan speculation -- but it is pre-NAB season and generating buzz at the convention does seem to have a force-multiplier effect. I agree that 4.0 is still bright and shiny -- but the reality is that it's crunch time for Avid and "this time it's personal".

I think we'd all have to agree that 4.0 offered some excellent new features. But, in retrospect, I wonder if we would classify the majority of them as more evolutionary -- than revolutionary (although one or two of them were obviously quite revolutionary).

One thing's for sure; a true and sustainable Avid "turnaround" will probably require a frequent succession of big and innovative splashes. If they have stockpiled enough of them to do a point release announcement at NAB -- then why not?

Maybe it's real...maybe it's not. But, I guess for somewhat selfish reasons, I'm kinda hoping it is true. I'd like to see Avid recapture some lost market share and some lost cachet.

And, as an unemployed editor, I wouldn't mind seeing something other than a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of FCP:Avid job postings that seems ubiquitous on the Internet.

But hey...that's just me.
