Best conference I've gone to all year was Distribution U last saturday
at UCLA (although organized by Scott Kirsner and Peter Broderick).

Great storytellers are making money from their work, just not the way
it used to be made. I put forward the example, from the conference, of
One Six Right, where some money came from "the usual" distribution
(self sales of DVD, some licensing to Discovery) but the bulk of the
income was form non-traditional sources. Turns out Brian Terwilliger
is as talented at marketing as he is at documentary filmmaking.

It's the "somehow they'll be rewarded" part of the equation that's
changing, and changing far faster than anyone really wants it to
(unless they're the majority locked out of the current paths to making
money).
