I don't doubt that RED might have such ambitions. On the other hand, I think they would be better served to actually finish the cameras first. This mantra of a never ending beta program is getting a bit old, don't you think?

So OK, you might be able to edit with it. But what about formats other than RED? What about audio? What about effects? What about reliable playback at a constant speed? What about over and undercranking, mixed frame rates and mixed frame sizes? Assimilate Scratch is not an NLE either, nor do they claim to be.

There's more to an NLE than stringing together pictures from a single format. You can cut pieces with iMovie, too, but it's not what most of us would consider a professional NLE.
