[Avid-L2] A Normalize Question for Anyone Out There

I'm finishing a one-hour documentary as a personal favor for a friend.
A major component of the project are interviews, with varying audio
levels. I've normalized all the edited audio clips and that seems to
work, expect for a few exceptions, when the levels are ignored. In some
cases, these are clips from the same interview that was successfully
normalized elsewhere. I've tried re-rendering and even re-normalizing
the segment where the levels change, with no success. Does anyone have
any suggestions of how to correct non-normalized clips in an otherwise
normalized sequence? I'm thinking the problem may come from trying to
do an entire hour at a time. Would splitting it into smaller segments
(e.g. 20 minutes) help. MC 7.03.
Happy New Year!
Jon

I have a draft of this document at http://paul-sampson.ca/DRAFT/

I am hoping a few people can have a look and offer advice, suggestions, corrections, opinions.  I will post the final at www.paul-sampson.ca with the rest of my docs around January 15.

Now I start on Media Composer 8.3 - and the promise of resolution independence!

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Japanese subtitles in subcap

Apart from an occasionally spelling error, i would NEVER do ANYTHING in the plugin, always switch back to dedicated subtitle software.
More than one reason: 1), it's faster, 2), it's probably the case you need the subs in another format, and exporting from Avid and importing involves a risk (ok, it ' should' not be a risk, but it is...)
3) I don't use Subcap other than a placeholder where i put my better looking rendered titles.

But again, it's 2015, we're talking not moviing / one size / typeface / spacing / whiite outlined text title generator.

HOW HARD CAN IT BE!

It is what we do here. The caption window only works ok for english with no carriage return.
Try the & in the Master Caption, it still creates chaos.

I would never edit a caption using the "Caption Text" window. Here, the "&" will be interpreted as a kind of control or escape character rather than something to display.
Editing the same text using the "Edit Master Caption list..." is in my experience the most predictable method to edit caption contents.

[Avid-L2] OT: Wow what a time we live in

Just sent of the Post Coordinator to take a drive with the last 4 segments for tonight's live show starting at 10P EST.  The drive left our production offices at approx 2P PST to go from Hollywood to the San Fernando Valley where the Post Supervisor has a very fast connection with his cable modem, at least 6 to 8 times our internet pipe at the production offices.  He has about 14 GB to upload to get the files to the production truck in time for the 10P east coast start.  I assume they will be ingested directly to the EVS for in show playback.  We had sent tape copies of all but one segment last night.  Unfortunately there were broadcast standards changes etc...  so now a re-feed.  Do I get to call it a "Re-feed" when it's not at a major technical center of a network or a facility but just an apartment in the SF valley that has faster pipes than we do in Hollywood.  Sure seems like a crazy world but one hell of an adrenaline rush.  I miss live TV.
