Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Anyone buy a Wacom lately?

My brief take:

For general interface control, offline editing, AE and photoshop work, I like a medium tablet. The large is pretty big and my hand feels like I'm painting a house when I try to move around. Of course, that's because and I don't do tons of close secondaries, roto, vfx, etc. And mostly I'm used to a medium.

But for Terry's kind of work, I can see why a large makes more sense.

So um... It depends?

[Avid-L2] Company looking for Asst Editors in Santa Monica, CA

Hi All,
I'm currently searching for an Avid assistant editor to begin next week on network reality show. Non-union, full time, paid position commensurate with experience. Position is based out of our Santa Monica offices. At this time only accepting candidates who have previous reality and Avid assistant editing experience. This is for a swing shift position, with the occasional night shift as needed. Candidate should have a strong technical knowledge of Avid Media Composer, and strong in grouping, syncing, stringing, importing, outputs, layoffs, & media management. Right now we're looking for someone for the next 3-4 weeks, however this position has strong potential to be longer based upon the needs of the show. We also have several shows that have been picked up for the fall and will be staffing shortly, so the right candidate has potential to be with the company long term. Please direct resumes to coishi@highnoontv.com.

Thanks!
Caitlin

I guess the wacom mouse doesn't have a wire on it, just like the
pen, but there is a wire to the tablet unless you are using a
bluetooth model.

[Avid-L2] Re: Recycling old unitys

To be honest, I don't understand either. Better still, if add a 'normal' disk into the unity, it does not work. If i add a bit copied disk, even one larger than the others in the raid, it works and it makes the raid bigger !! That seems completely illogical.

I analysed a unity disk on a linux machine and it showed a small hidden partition that seemed to have control info. Maybe this is untrue.

This morning, I then thought, what stops me installing a unity OS on a 3rd party raid box, like that mentioned by Rupert, and using it on ethernet. There must be a restriction but I can't think what.

It sounds like it must not be a firmware if a bit for bit copy works that seems to imply that it would be a control script on the drive itself. Does that make sense or am I misunderstanding what a control script is in this application?

Not worth it. I needed a NAS 6 months ago & thought about
re-purposing my old Terrablock or my old Unity LANshare. But after a
bit of research I bought a little NAS box (Netgear ReadyNAS) for under
$1000, stuffed it with six 3TB Hitachi Deskstars, and it's been
running like a champ. It's small, quiet, and simple to manage. Save
yourself the bother, just buy a NAS off the shelf.

I have had success reading Canon XF with MC 4.0 Win and Symphony 5.5 Mac.

The Canon XF AMA plug-in AND the MXF AMA plug-in from Avid both need to be
installed. Then, the workflow is the same as XDCAM-EX.
