[Avid-L2] Are these the current ama Plugins?

I used the avid page:
http://www.avid.com/US/products/Avid-Media-Access/plug-ins

I downloaded all the plugins I found there.  It seems that the mxf plugin is now installed with Avid and the version mine has is 1.8 which is a higher number than those on the download page for the mxf Plug in.  Here is my AMA_listplugins console command dump:

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

[Avid-L2] BNC Kings connector cost for Kings 2065-7-9 | 75 Ohm BNC Connector?

Just curious if anybody knows why the Kings 2065-7-9 bnc crimp connector for beldon 8241 is over $4 bucks a connector when the ones like 2065-2-9 for 1505A is only $1.89 a connector.  They are virtually the same size as far as material.  Is it because people don't use much 8241 cable any more?  Also my new discovery is banana peel bundled cable.  I know it's not new but I'm using it for the first time.  Anybody have any issues using it over the jacketed bundled cables.  I wouldn't use it for snakes but it seems like it would be good for intra rack wiring.  I've always been a fan of bundled cable even though it costs more with the ever changing racks I tend to deal with it adds a little more organization over separate cables when dealing with trunk feeds to and from edit bays.

[Avid-L2] Missing Isis Space!

Okay, I'm totally stumped here.

We've got an Isis 7000, ver 2.4, IP 2.5

3 of the crates have 2TB blades set as one group for one workspace.
96TB, mirrored shows as 43TB

The Isis Management Console shows 33TB used, 10TB available.
In IP Access, when I add up the total amount of media to delete from that workspace, I can only come up with 20TB.
At the OS level it shows 35TB used (through Get Info), 10TB free.
When I look at the actual finder level, the folders and files only add up to 20TB.

I am missing 13-15TB of space!

I have combed through this for days/weeks and cannot find what is eating up my free space.

Any ideas anybody?

thx,
Kurt

[Avid-L2] Unable to consolidate ProRes AMA in 6.5.2????

Heads up.....

With the 6.5.2 release, ProRes Quicktime has been promoted to a native codec for increased performance and the ability to consolidate files.

BUT some people have reported they are experiencing errors when they want to consolidate ProRes AMA files....

If you open a project with ProRes files linked via AMA, from BEFORE the upgrade to 6.5.2, you will have to RELINK these files, to get correct native version of the plugin to engage, and start consolidating!!

The ReadMe has been updated to reflect this info. on the KB at http://tinyurl.com/b28we88

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!

Re: [Avid-L2] Error transcoding AVCHD

It goes back to the original poster's point -- that the clips are
transcoded in a seemingly random order. So when you sort on clipname,
the '.new' duplicates are sprinkled throughout your bin, not all
conveniently grouped at the top or bottom.

If you have a lot of clips, then the procedure I suggested of building a
sequence and relinking to the AMA originals should be faster than doing
a visual sort based on duplicate clipnames. The latter approach is also
more prone to user error.

Cheers,
--Michael

RE: [Avid-L2] Error transcoding AVCHD

When you need to re-select clips for re-transcoding can't you just sift the bin to show file names? Because all the files that are transcoded will have the same name as the originals (with .new obviously appended) so you'll see original followed by transcode, followed by original. Eventually you'll reach a point where the original files aren't followed by transcodes and this is where to pick up from. Shouldn't take long.

Re: [Avid-L2] Error transcoding AVCHD

I've actually uprezzed about an hour-long timeline relying on Avid's
ability to tell what's already been transcoded within a sequence. But I
guess that's different from transcoding a bunch of clips.

[Avid-L2] Sony F-65 ama plug in confusion on avid ama plugin link page?

Either I'm misreading or there is a typo on the Avid AMA Plugins link page regarding the Sony F-65 ama plugin:

From the Avid Page (http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/en394827)

XDCAM:

Get
direct access to and full native support of Sony XDCAM, XDCAM HD, and
XDCAM EX formats (including low-res proxies) with the AMA XDCAM plug-in.
With fast and flexible XDCAM workflows, you can edit your way, right
away. Edit SD and HD footage directly, get better clip and project
management with full metadata support, import footage over FireWire, and
deliver final projects in XDCAM formats.

HDCAM SR:

Get
direct access to and full native support of Sony HDCAM SR Lite media
and metadata. This plug-in eliminates having to transcode media,
enabling you to start editing footage right away

F65:

The SRPA-10 plug-in supports Lite and SQ bit rates for 4:2:2 files and SQ bit rates for 4:4:4 files

Get direct access to and full native support of Sony HDCAM SR Lite
media and metadata. This plug-in eliminates having to transcode media,
enabling you to start editing footage right away.  The Sony F65
AMA plug-in support both versions 6.0.3 and 6.5.

Sony has made
system recommendaitons beyond the minimum Avid system requirements for
the best experience using this plugin. Please see the documentation from
Sony included with the download.

This reads like the SRPA-10 plug in is for the F-65 but in reality it's the PLAV-RW1_v1.0_mac or windows that is for the F-65.  Am I misreading or is this confusing?  Just something I noticed while setting up my new system.

Re: [Avid-L2] Error transcoding AVCHD

I have tried that with incomplete transcodes from bins of AMA clips.

My results were not consistent. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it
created new transcodes of clips that had already been transcoded. I
believe I always had the 'include reformatted clips..." checkbox
de-selected.

Cheers,

[Avid-L2] Cal Digit Express34 to USB3 card transfer rate?

So a while back I got a Cal Digit Express 34 to USB 3.0 for my MBP Circa summer 2009 intel core 2 duo 3.06Ghz.  I know the Express card slot does not support the full tilt USB 3.0 5 Gbps but tonight I did a little comparison with a USB 3.0 WD My Passport 1TB drive.  I copied from an external FW 800 single drive enclosure to the Passport about 180 gigs of material.  The data rate looking at the Activity monitor showed approx 32MB/sec read and write when I hooked up the passport drive to the standard USB 2.0 connection on the side of the MBP.  When I did the same hooking the passport to the express34 to USB 3.0 card the transfer rate was more than double, approx 72MB/sec read and write.  I'm curious if the FW 800 connection and the normal USB 2.0 connections are on the same buss.  I recall reading here that the express34 slot was a separate buss which was why it could provide better throughput when other drives were hooked to the FW 800 port.  Is
that correct?  I would think besides USB 3.0 vs USB 2.0 speeds if the FW and USB 2.0 ports are on the same buss that is probably also contributing to the throughput difference.  I've been told my MBP is the express card 1.0 standard so it is limited to 2.5Gbps.  Had it come with express card 2.0 with 5Gbps that would have allowed enough bandwidth for some of the blackmagic I/O devices and maybe even the ultrascope pocket scope version.  Oh well at least tonights transfer is going twice as fast.
