Re: [Avid-L2] OTish: Closed Captioning Font size OTA, Set Top Box, Smart TV App?

It's my understanding that the CC is entirely within the streaming app, and apps have to be tweak/written for each os.  Over-the-air is handled by the TV.

We mostly use a fire stick, yet another OS, not the LG webos. Dont have britbox, so can't say if its different in the fire stick.

Watching the same show on paramount+ and then on YouTubeTV, the captions are very different - limited options in P+, but all the options you might want in YT.   Both on the fire stick.

In trying to increase the Closed Captioning Font Size on the Britbox App running on an LG TV there seems to be now way to increase the Font.  It was suggested from google to use the LG TV settings for captioning to increase the font size but that doesn't work.  Netflix app on the same TV offers captioning sizing.  I know HDMI doesn't carry closed captioning so using a set top box the box itself has to superimpose the CC.  My gut says the LG TV settings would only effect OFF AIR signals but is there any possibility that the smart TV app could interact with the general TV settings so the general settings would effect the apps CC size?  Netflix offers CC sizing in it's app and that works.

I would think CC size would have to be controlled by the actual streaming App only on a Smart TV but I don't know enough about the interaction under the hood.

My initial concern was with Britbox.  We found running Britbox there is a CC sizing option on a laptop running in a browser but not on the LG smart TV version of the app.
