Why? Storage is cheap! Archive the files as DV, which means you are losing nothing. You can always follow Job's advice and upres later.
I have been shocked at how decent some early and ugly 8mm Sony video looked when digitized to DV using a Digital-8 player and then de-interlaced and up-rezzed and graded and noise-reduced in Resolve studio.
