QTref files have been dead to me since Adobe dropped support for them and they could no longer be imported into Adobe Media Encoder circa CC2018. 

I've been exporting as MXF Op1a since. I use the Avid Media Processor (see pic) and it makes an .mxf that I can take to any application. Full disclosure: I haven't ventured beyond MC2018 yet.
